The Not-So Merry Christmas

What a week!

Christmas was on Wednesday. Sunday night Eli's fever started. He spent Monday on the couch with a high fever, headache, and body aches. Tuesday he was mostly the same but you could tell he was improving. I woke up Tuesday knowing it was coming. My head was hurting and I was not feeling great. By Tuesday night my body hurt so bad I almost cried when I had to lift my leg to step over the baby gate! Of course that was Christmas Eve so Mike had to get everything out and under the tree when I went to bed early. Luckily for the first time ever we wrapped presents ahead of time! So thankful for that.

Mike and Rowan were watching the Grinch until 10 pm and Rowan was tracking Santa! So mike really couldn't go to bed until after 11. Silas woke up and came to our bed. It became clear he wasnt feeling great either and mike and I were awake with him a lot that night- as in no sleep at all. On top of feeling sick that was not fun! I still had a fever and was achey Christmas morning but we had a good time opening presents. We postponed our brunch with my mom and sister until supper hoping we'd feel better. We didn't really but did it anyway. We had cereal for breakfast on Christmas :/ mike bought the boys sweet cereal so they loved it!
Silas's fever was pretty low and was gone by bedtime that night. He still didn't feel too great but he was pretty good.
Thursday I still had a fever. Felt crappy but definitely not like I was. During supper Eli said his tummy hurt and even cried cause it hurt. Since he's never done that before we were quite freaked out and were ready to head to the doctor. He laid on the couch with mike and felt better after a few minutes ( gas?) and then fell asleep at 5:30 pm! I felt better by bedtime but still had a fever.

Friday I woke up and still had a low fever! It's getting ridiculous! Eli isn't feeling great and has been laying on the couch all day. It's quite strange but I'm thinking he just needed more time to recover and his body didn't like his 2 days of having crazy Eli back ;)

Mike has had a mild touch of this- a headache somewhat and a little achey and tired. I'm so glad it didn't hit him as hard since he has really held us together! I don't remember ever being sick on Christmas. Not fun at all! And we aren't getting to enjoy our break either. We've had to cancel a few things and its really dissapointing.

It wasnt all bad though. The kids still had a good Christmas and have been enjoying their toys! I'll post pics soon- I did remember to take pictures on the real camera!!

Snow Weekend

Friday afternoon the boys had their christmas concert at school. Mike took off work so he could go and it was so fun to see them up there singing. Eli was really excited! ( I took pics with my phone so they aren't very good. Oops)

After the concert we took the boys to Dairy Queen for a treat. Eli had a Carmel shake and Rowan a hot fudge shake. Silas loved trying to sneak bites of everyone's treats with the spoon we gave him.
The boys were staying the night at my moms Friday night so we took them over after our ice cream. Mike made my mom a wooden tree with lights for her front yard so we had stopped by and set it up earlier to surprise her. We pulled up right after her and she was quite confused. Haha. But she was really excited when we said it was from us.

After we dropped the boys off mike and I headed in town with Silas to finish our Christmas shopping and hopefully get back home before it snowed too much. We went to dollar tree and it was just starting to snow when we headed to Walmart. Of course we were in there waaaaayyyy to long and when we came out the van and ground were covered in snow and it was coming down really heavy! The roads weren't too bad but it took forever to get home since most people were driving 25 :/

Saturday we woke up to maybe 6-8" of snow! And it was still coming down! I had sent the boys snow pants so they had fun at my moms and mike and I and Silas had a nice lazy ( and quiet!) day at home. They plowed our road in the afternoon and then we went to get the big boys.

We came home and made hamburgers and watched some Christmas videos. Eli and Silas fell asleep before Rowan so he laid in bed with us and watched tv. We don't get much time alone with just Rowan so it was nice. He's so grown up when Eli's not around. We are trying to take the kids on individual dates so they get time with just us and without each other. Rowan went with mike a few weeks ago but Eli has lost his everytime :/

Sunday we all bundled up to play in the snow. It's not my favorite thing at all but it was Silas's first time so I went out. He was miserable so we weren't out long. He did like hitting the big chunks of snow the boys gave him! I got to try out the snow thrower we got last year from friends who moved to California ( Thanks D!). Um. It's awesome! I would even help clear the snow and I never do that! It was great to have especially since Mike has been having a lot of back pain lately ( I'm sure I would have shoveled if I had to..)

The rest of the day was pretty lazy- football, movies, and me napping with Silas on the couch! Then we dipped some marshmallows and candy canes in melted chocolate and sprinkles. I got a little package to send to the family of Mike's friend who passed away and u thought the kids would like these. We put in some hot cocoa spoons and a little gift for the kids too. I'm sure this will be a hard Christmas for them....

Forgot to mention that mike and I wrapped all their presents when they were at my moms! I almost always wrap on Xmas eve and every year I vow to not to do that again. Mike has to pick up like 2 small things for them and then we are done! Of course I didn't get their teacher gifts yet... But we have till Friday. Still doing better than usual!

17 months!!

( look at me posting on the day and not a month late!)

I can not even believe next month this boy will be one and a half!
He's still super sweet and so awesome. We are so lucky to have him!

He's had a bit to adjust to in the past few weeks because I started watching my cousins 2 month old baby! Silas loves Jackson. Especially his feet! He always wants his shoes and socks. Always. He occasionally thinks he must be on my lap when I start giving Jackson a bottle but he has gotten much better about it. He looks for him first thing in the morning and seems confused if he's not here like on weekends. I'm excited to see them together over the next few months!

Silas loves his nights with daddy when I have class and almost always is still awake when I get home :/

He still eats most everything but will not let me feed him at all. Sometimes he'll let mike but not me.
He gets so excited when his brothers get home from school!

He is starting to fight being put in the car seat. Not fun especially since we are almost always in a hurry.

He wants to help do things around the house. He loves to push the broom and mop around. He wants to throw away trash- and stuff that isn't trash lol. He throws stuff into the sink a lot too. I need to try and get him in on the nightly clean up with his brothers!

He had his first bubble bath a few weeks ago. He was pretty freaked out and wouldn't sit down! The next time he would and he loved it!! He likes taking a bath with Eli. They've also been playing really well together lately and I think it's because Eli basically acts like he's a toddler ;)

Fall hike!

A few weeks ago ( 2? Maybe? Last weekend we had tornadoes so it was definetly not then!) it was gorgeous so we decided to go to a nearby state park to do some hiking. It was such a perfect day and the leaves were mostly still on the trees. We don't go to this park very often but there's this nice area we go to that's off the trail (!) that we love and is close to the river in the flood plane so it's pretty clear but was full of leaves on this day.

I even took my real camera! We used a a fallen tree to take pics of all of us together and got a great one for our Christmas card( yes I've already got them printed! So unlike me..) this pics are all from my phone but they are still good. I so wish we had some land so the boys could play in the woods every day!

Freddie

Freddie's been missing for the last week and a half :(. She disappeared last Monday, which of course was the coldest night so far this year. We keep hoping she'll just randomly walk up some day, but the longer she's gone the less likely that seems.

The kids miss her but I don't think they really understand that we may never see her again. The last she was here she had spent the whole day in the laundry room (since it has doors and can be shut off from the rest of the house she gets to spend the night in there if she wants) because it was raining and she is not a fan of the rain. That evening she had started meowing to go out but every time we'd try to let her out she wouldn't go because of the rain so we finally just made her go out. Of course we feel bad now because we made her go out :(

We didn't worry right away when she didn't show up for breakfast, but as the day went on it became pretty odd that she wasnt coming home. At first we thought maybe someone put her in their garage since it was cold but I think she'd be out by now.... We put up a sign at our post office and we've driven all the close country roads to see if she'd gotten hit but there's been no sign of her.

We are still somewhat hopeful. Cats are strange animals and maybe she could've just taken off for a while....?

Happy Birthday Mike!

Mike's birthday was a few weeks ago- ok a month exactly...
We are pretty busy right now with me and school so he said we could just buy him a dessert but I couldn't let that happen!  The boys were off school on his bday for a 4-day weekend (Columbus day) so we headed into Walmart to get pecans so we could make a pecan pie!!!  (for some reason I didn't take a picture..)  They also picked out some candy for his bday.  We aren't too into buying presents and whenever I see the homemade gifts the boys come up with I remember why.

Rowan took a diaper box apart and made a giant card for him (below).  If we went to the store and bought a card it would just have some words that mean nothing to Rowan (or Mike) and the boys would write their names, where's the thought in that?  So, homemade is what we do and the boys love it and put a lot of thought into it!

They each picked out what kind of chocolate they thought he would like, one was with hot peppers!
For some reason Rowan always writes "Dear Mike" instead of daddy... I think in case Mike gets confused? haha He has a whole wall that's a bulletin board in his office at work so he took the giant card and hung it up there.

On Saturday, after his birthday, my mom came over and watched the kids and Mike and I went to the Amish buffet. It's really good, but pretty pricey so we haven't been there in forever.  He wanted to be able and look at the flea market stuff afterwards without the kids ;) so my mom watched them  It was nice to enjoy a meal without having to get food for them constantly-! And then we did some shopping at the outlet mall- fun times!
