So Tell Me About....

FLEAS.
I'm getting worried. Row has had strange bites on his body (pretty much all over) for the last few weeks. They don't bother him, I've never even seen him itch- although if I ask him if they itch he says yes- but you know he's 3. He's seemed kind of sensitive to bites in the past so I didn't really think much about it. He could walk outside and a minute later have 3 mosquito bites, his bites also tend to hang around a little longer than on other people. So tonight (after having been outside) I saw what I thought was another damn pirate bug on my arm, I was on the phone so I didn't really look at it good, I went to smack it and it jumped, pirate bugs don't jump do they? None of the ones I've seen do, and the only bug I could think of that would jump is a flea.

We don't have any pets, but I know we could still get them, but if we had fleas in our house would it make sense that only Row would be getting bit? The rest of us don't have any bites. Do the bites itch, if that's what he has would they be bothering him? Could the fleas be living happily in his room only? Is there a way that I can actually find out if we have fleas? Please help I'm a little freaked out here- and feeling very itchy!!

It's probably the pirate bugs. Although, I blame everything on them.

I'm in a bad mood...pirate bugs
I burned dinner...pirate bugs
I don't feel like cooking/cleaning...pirate bugs

But, I do notice that I too have bites all over me and they don't itch. And I know they're bites from the pirate bugs. So maybe you just got a jumpy pirate bug.

Oh I hope it was a jumpy one. You know now that I think about it I think the reason my house is a mess is because of the pirate bugs- they keep me from doing laundry, picking up toys, dishes. Maybe that's why my children won't nap either!! Thanks HQ :)

Not to freak you out, but when I was younger, we had a dog that had fleas and my mom had bites everywhere. The derm she worked with told her that some people are just flea magnets and others aren't, so none of the rest of us got bit, but my mom was covered.

But I'm sure it's just pirate bugs. :)

I'm with harley quinn on this...its the damn pirate bugs. They follow us inside all the time, on our clothes, in our hair, etc. Because the kids spend so much time outside, they're just covered in them. In fact, when I brought MW to get her hair cut on Sunday afternoon, I saw 3 pirate bugs in her HAIR while the lady was washing it! Yuck, yuck, yuck.
But I grew up in a flea infested house and that's a totally different experience. Unless you are finding little black bugs first thing in the morning or at a time when you haven't been outside at all. Otherwise I think the pirate bugs are hitch-hikers and good jumpers. Just keep hoping for that first frost. :)

Yes, Rachel-I too hope it's just the pirate bugs; you should find out maybe soon because I am sure a frost will be here soon. -Joan
