The three hour test...

Today I had to take my 3 hour glucose tolerance test, which means I failed the 1 hour :( I was supposed to carb- load this weekend to try and help my body produce more insulin (or something like that) but mike and I did a bunch of work to the bathroom and laundry room this weekend. We were so busy I probably actually ate less than usual! The boys spent the weekend at mikes parents so we could work- and spend hours at Menards- without them in the way. We still have lots to do, but it's slowly coming together.

So the test- I had to fast and sit at the lab for three hours! As I drank the disgusting orange drink the girl told me that this one is actually twice as sweet as the one you drink for the one hour test! I had no idea and I've done the three hour with each pregnancy! Of course since she told me I couldn't stop thinking about how much more sweet it is. There has to be a better way to test for this stuff! Right?!

Mike had to go to work so he brought the boys to hang out with me for the last hour of the test. They were pretty good, they love the fish tank so I told the technichian I'd be by them for my last blood draw.

Eli had fun climbing on the chairs too- and ignoring me telling him to stop! I didn't care too much we did have an hour to kill and there was no one back by us- probably because we were there ;)

They were so curious about me getting the actual blood draw. They are both kind of squeamish about that stuff so I didn't know what they'd do. Eli actually ran right outside the room and stood around the corner because he didn't want to see me get poked then he was mad cause he missed it! Rowan asked a million questions as usual and the guy was awesome with him! We were talking about getting shots the other day so I told them it was kind of like that it hurts a little but then it's over!

After I was done we went to culvers for lunch at 10:40! I was starving!

The boys were so good! I feel like it's getting so much easier to go in public with them both lately ( well Eli, Rowan is usually fine) and now we are going to add a baby! I'll probably stop going out with just the kids again ;)

Cub Scout Cake Contest

Tonight we went to a family banquet for cub scouts. They asked all the boys to make and decorate a cake to bring. Rowan started planning his as soon as we found out about the contest. He's also been begging to make the cake everyday this week! We finally did it yesterday. He chose a pyramid!

Mike and I did most of the shaping of the cake. Of course Rowan was near by to make sure we knew he "was boss of the cake!"

The top was a bit hard to piece together. There are a lot of little pieces up there!

Next I did the thin crumb layer of icing. Then we made yellow icing for the main icing layer, Rowan tried to help spread :)

He chose to cover the cake in m-n-m's! Originally only two sides would have them, but we had more than I thought and were able to cover the whole cake!

Rowan chose how each side would be decorated. He did allow Mike to help, I can't imagine how long it would have taken if he did it all himself!

2 sides have a little triangle surrounded by the other color (we used yellow and gold). One side was the striped and one side was all yellow.

Spreading the icing for the sand ( crushed nilla wafers)

Even Eli got to help!

And the final! No pyramid is complete without a mote (moat?) and sharks, right? ;). I think this shows that obviously he did the designing!

I should have took a close- up pic of the water it looked pretty good!

Ready to go! He was soooo excited!

He ended up winning 1st place in his group- Tiger Scouts- and 3rd place for tallest cake!! He was so excited and so proud.

I was kind of surprised with how many cakes didn't seem to have much kid involvement..... Maybe others just don't get as into this as we do ;). Oh well, after they announced winners we got to cut the cakes and eat! We did try quite a few and they were good!

Month of love

I hardly ever use our chalkboard in the dining room, so I decided to do something fun with it this month. We put a name on it and then we each give a reason why we love that person.

Rowan had a very hard time with the first day and finally just said " cause you're my brother". I had to practically force him to come up with a reason.

For rowans Eli originally said " because you cry and and I laugh!" ah brothers...

For me Eli said " because you kiss and hug me and eat and eat" um thanks...

Rowan was back to not being able to think of something so just said " because you're my dad" for mike. Oh well! It was fun and I think we'll do everyone again to see what else they can come up with!

Lost Tooth!

Rowan lost his first tooth yesterday!

He was a bit freaked out because it bled a little!! He does not like blood at all.

We made a pillow to hold his tooth under the pillow( idea from pinterest) I finished it after he lost the tooth. Of course, I had to work last night and they forgot to put it under the pillow so hopefully tonight we can remember and the toothfairy will come tonight!

Eli

Last night Eli fell asleep on me on the couch. I thought it would be easier than actually putting him to bed- and it was! I love his profile, he still looks kind of baby-like to me. I know that will change when the baby comes. That's my giant vanilla coke from Sonic in the background. Mike brought home for me at 9pm- yeah cravings!

This morning he was being pretty cute too, until he started demanding food. ;). Eli usually won't give kisses to us anymore and if he does he immediately wipes it off :(

Spring?

Yesterday was warm, very windy but pretty nice, especially for January 31st! Eli had speech after lunch so I decided to take the kids to the park close by afterwards

They had so much fun! I did too, even though I was cold. Afterwards we went to Dairy Queen where they both got milkshakes - Eli strawberry and Rowan got peanut butter. I got a mini mint Oreo blizzard and a chili cheesedog ( in case anyone is wondering. )
