And the countdown begins...

There was no change in my cervix again- uugghh what the hell is wrong with my cervix!! All of the tests on the baby look fine though, so we are scheduled to go in Thursday night. I still have a little hope that I may actually go into labor on my own, but if not oh well. So Thursday at 5pm I have orders to call L&D and they will tell me what time to come in, I'll get my cervidil and then be on the monitor for 2 hours. Then they want me to try and sleep. The midwife suggested I take a sleeping pill, but I was kind of looking forward to staying up late and watching cable tv!! We don't have cable so Mike and I are thinking of this like a little vacation- no Rowan, cable tv, meals delivered... oh I guess the pain of being in labor and giving birth will probably remind me that I am not going to a hotel!

The Evil "I" Word...

I was induced with Rowan, not because there was a major medical issue, just because I was a few days overdue. I wish I hadn't let the doctor so easily talk me into it, and I really do think that it led to me spending the whole day of labor in bed...which led to the epidural...which led to the HUGE episiotomy....which led to the months of awful pain afterwards. Now I know I still could have had all of that even if I wasn't induced, but that's just how I feel about it.

I wanted it to be different this time, the hospital we are at has midwives, I was hoping to not even have to mess with a doctor. A doctor who would most likely treat my pregnancy as a medical problem instead of something that my body was made for. I feel like I'm treated differently when I have an appointment with a midwife, it's so much more personal. I thought I would finally get the experience I wanted.

Then I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes and suddenly my pregnancy became "high risk." I had to rotate appointments with a doctor, and I did feel treated different at those appointments than with the midwives, but thankfully I was able to stay off insulin so I will still get to have my delivery with a midwife.

Yesterday I had another check-up, which started with an ultrasound for amniotic fluid check (looks good!), a Non-Stress Test (baby looks great, and I had 1 contraction on paper, and I didn't even feel it!), and an appointment with a midwife. I of course said I wanted to be checked and she agreed and asked if the doctor I had been seeing had ever mentioned how far overdue she would let me go- no it wasn't something I had ever wanted to ask her. So she checks me, well tries to check me apparently my wonderful cervix is still too far up or back or whatever! She did say it was VERY soft which is a good sign.

She went to find the doctor to see what her verdict would be. The doctor told her I could have until 40weeks 6days, next Friday the 27th, if I didn't go by then I would be induced with pitocin. Now I did not have pitocin with Rowan all they did was break my water, but I have heard enough about pitocin to know that I do not want it! I would also have to be monitored constantly and wouldn't be able to use the hot tubs or any water on pitocin. So at this point I feel like I want to cry- I am still pregnant and all hormonal and stuff!

We then talk more about the next week and the appointment I will be scheduled for on Monday. I will once again have an ultrasound( this will be #6- I really hope these are as safe as they claim) and Non-Stress test, but this time they will be doing a biophysical profile. I'll have another exam and if there is no change in my cervix we will schedule the induction. I will have to go to the hospital Thursday night and they will insert cervidil and hopefully that will work while I sleep. If that doesn't strt me into labor then Friday morning I will get pitocin. If my cervix has changed by Monday (or even Friday) then they will have other options- sweeping my membranes, or even breaking my water.

I feel a little better about my chances of not having pitocin, and maybe even going into labor on my own- I would like to find out if my body can do this! I am glad to know there is some end in site, and if nothing else by this time next week I will be drinking a pop!!! MMMmmm!!!! Oh and I'll have my newborn baby boy- I guess that's better than the pop! Although I do love McD's Dr. Pepper! :)

38 week Appointment

I had to start with a non stress test (love the "high" risk pregnancy procedures). Mike and I went shopping this morning and the baby moved constantly all morning, I kept telling him to stop and save it for the test. They told me the week before that if he was in a sleepy period and they didn't get to see heart rate changes that I would probably end up having another sonogram. Of course as soon as we got in there he wasn't moving, I drank some ice water and pushed around on him a little and he started moving, so they got what they wanted. His heart rate was good usually around 130's but would jump up past 180 when he was moving! It sounded a little freaky when it would jump up like crazy.

I saw the same midwife I saw last time and think she is definetly my favorite. She had a student with her and the student was going to check me, but said my cervix was too high, and she didn't want to risk me kicking her in the face to check!! She made me laugh at least, although I was hoping for better news!

I bought a dress today for my cousin's wedding this weekend. I really didn't realize how big I was until I was standing in a dressing room surrounded by mirrors in a tight dress!! WOW!! I did find one that was cute and only $20. I bought one for $40 at another store but took it back aftre finding this one, I really didn't want to pay much for something I know I will wear once! Maybe I'll wear it when I go to the hospital to have the baby, yeah that sounds fun!

37 Week Appt.

The midwife I saw today doesn't start checking until 38 weeks, so next week we will see if anything is happening! I was kind of disappointed, but Rowan had to go to the appt. so that probably would have been a little weird with him in the room!

I did buy some raspberry leaf tea and evening primrose oil, to start taking and hopefully they can help move stuff along. Next week's appt. will start with a Non Stress Test, something they do routinely w/ gestational diabetes ( and I managed to avoid for the last 2 weeks). We also set up my appt. for right before my due date which starts with an ultrasound at 1:15 (fliud check), a non stress test at 2:20, and a regular appt at 3:15!! I am really hoping to avoid this appointment, who wants to spend that much time waiting!

Since Rowan still had a slight fever this morning he had to go to the appointment with us, which limited the errands we could run, which meant no dishwasher shopping :( Oh well, maybe next week!

Appointment and Belly shots

36 week belly

Comparing tummies- he was totally sucking in!

Blogger won't let me upload anymore pics and I had some really cute ones of Rowan, oh well!

We saw the Dr. today and had a sonogram. We didn't get any pics of the baby, since he is so big (cause of how far along I am, not cause he is huge!) she had a hard time getting measurements on him and could hardly see anything, couldn't even get a good view of his face- which was facing my back. He is just really cramped in there, so anytime he wants some more room he can come on out! His feet were planted nicely under my ribs- something I already knew! The estimate for his size was 7lbs 4 oz, but she said they can be more than a pound off at this stage, so I guess that really doesn't mean much.

The Dr. said my blood sugars looked "stellar." This is the same woman who looked at my nembers last time and said they were going up and maybe we'd start insulin soon!! My numbers have stayed pretty much the same over the past few months, I wanted to laugh when she said it! I am fairly certain now that I will not be needing insulin, and hopefully soon this baby will come out and I won't have to poke my finger 4x's a day anymore!

Fun at home

I finally bought Rowan some play-doh and he loved it, first we made snakes Then we made a bear/bunny not sure what it turned out to be but he was having fun!Last weekend it was finally nice out so we went out and played with bubbles, Rowan was having problems actually "blowing" the bubbles so instead he just ran with the bubble wand and it worked just as well.

Rowan falling, from running so fast with the bubbles.
Of course the nice weather can't ever last forever, and this weekend will be cold rainy and maybe even snowy!! Rowan and I are getting colds again so I'm sure we'll have a fun sick weekend stuck in the house again!! Next week it is supposed to be in the 70's so maybe spring will stick around eventually!! We are ready for it!!

We had another appointment this week, I am now 30 weeks! I saw the midwife and everything looks good. Baby is head down- which I pretty much knew since his head is pressing on my bladder constantly! My blood sugars have been really good and I think I am doing a lot better with the diet, no cheating! I guess I just won't get sugar till he's born. In 2 weeks we see the Dr. and will have another sonogram, we had a 32 week sono with Rowan and they estimated his weight at 4lbs. 9oz. so it'll be neat to see how this baby compares to Rowan.

28 weeks

27 week pic, in Chicago

I think this puts us in the 3rd trimester now!! 12 weeks to go, we have finally started buying some things we will need- Rowan loves the car seat! I had an appointment this week with the midwife and everything was good, I measured the right size, and we think he was head down. I will be having another ultrasound in a month so they can check his size, she also said that typically the Dr. starts doing NST at 36 weeks and once a week till birth, but we could always refuse to do this. Will just see what happens when we get there, I don't really want to sit in the office for an hour every week hooked up to a machine! We now will start going every 2 weeks, so I'm sure it will go pretty quick from here.

My blood sugars have still been good, but I think I am starting to feel the effects of anything sweet I eat. I even don't feel right after having even a drink of coffee- not sure if it's the caffeine or the tiny bit of sugar I put in it. They tell me it is harder for your body to regulate as the pregnancy goes on, so I guess that is why I am feeling it more. I will just have to be a lot more careful so I will hoepfully not need insulin. I have to start doing kick counts now, which is no problem since he moves constantly!

I got a prenatal massage this week, and it was great, so relaxing! I am hoping to get another one closer to delivery, since I'm sure I will be in more pain by then.

Week 24

Wow I really can't believe we are already at week 24!! I had an appointment with the doctor last week, they were talking about insulin since I had some high numbers, but aftre me telling them several times that I had been sick and not careful with my diet they said I could have more time. Of course the Dr. still thinks I will have to go on it eventually, but I will try to prove her wrong! My sugars have been fine this past week, so hopefully they will stay that way. Although we did get our girl scout cookies today :)

The baby is moving like crazy!! I swear I feel him all the time, Rowan never moved like this. Mike and I lay in bed watching my belly move around at night. My stomach has really been growing lately and I am definetly feeling it in my hips.

Yesterday it was 60 out and today we are suppose to be getting a snowstorm- we are ready for spring! Although, I would be ok with another snow day! Rowan is making all these plans for "when it's warm outside!" I think he is ready too. He knows he will have a new brother when it gets to be summer, but I don't think he quite gets what that means yet.

Appointment's and feeling Sick

After having absolutely no morning sickness with Rowan I have been feeling sick ALL weekend. I haven't actually gotten sick yet but just feel sick all the time- except when I'm eating or right after I eat. Hopefully it doesn't last, I have done nothing but lay on the couch and nap for the past few days.

I had my first doctor's appt last week. I had labs done and did the one hour glucose test- of course they didn't tell us this was going to happen, and I ate some sweets that morning. Well, I failed my one hour test so tomorrow I have to go in and do the three hour test and have my blood drawn 4 times!!! I am not looking forward to it, especially since I can't eat and know I will feel awful by the time I get out of there.
