10 Months

Wow, didn't I just do his 9 month? This month Eli got another cold, he spent a week on breathing treatments (after talking to the doctor) and wasn't getting better so we had to go in. He was put on a steroid (for the breathing treatment) and got better in a few days. his doctor thinks he will probably have some of the allergy/asthma type issues I had as a child, so that pretty much sucks! As for now, we will probably start breathing treatments EVERY time he gets a cold to avoid any other issues.

In other news, he's been great. He LOVES to feed himself, and I have loosened up a lot with letting him try new foods (although no junk or french fries..). Some meals he'll let us feed him, but other times he throws a fit if he's being fed, so meal time is getting quite messy (and I'm hating the idiots who put carpet in my dining room!!).

Still just has the 2 teeth

He can stand alone- quite a bit actually, and has taken 1 step!

Just Another Monday

4months

Two weeks ago, very early Monday morning I woke up sick to my stomach. I spent the next few hours awake in the bathroom and the rest of the day trying to rest while taking care of two kids.

Last Monday Eli woke up early from his morning nap puking. He threw up for the next several hours. I sat on the couch holding him- either while he slept or with a towel to his face when he puked.

This morning I put Eli down for his nap, he woke up early yet again, I didn't think much of it and decided to give him a few minutes to see if he'd fall back asleep. I even thought to myself- hhmm wonder if he's getting sick. I didn't REALLY think he was, so when I finally went in the room I was quite surprised to see that his crib, blankets, and of course himself were all covered in puke!I spent the next few hours on the couch holding him while he slept or vomited into the towel. I'm really not one to call the doctor's office all the time, but he puked up some blood (just a bit) and I just wanted to be reassured that this was ok (it is). So I was kind of surprised when she started looking for a time to get him to be seen, and even more surprised when she said they thought he might be getting dehydrated since he was still getting sick so often and hadn't eaten or drank anything. She thought we should probably go to the ER to see if he needed an IV.

Even though I KNEW he was ok, just sick. The minute she told me ER I was seriously freaking out- imagining all the major serious probelms that maybe he was having. This was our first experience w/ this, Rowan was never even sick (besides a cold) until he was almost 18months, and now in the past 4-5 weeks Eli has thrown up (a lot) on 3 different days! So we went to the ER. Mike was in town so I drove in all by myself to get him, and occasionally reaching back to touch Eli and make sure he was still breathing (he was never having any breathing issues, just part of me freaking out). Of course w/in minutes of being at the hospital he was more alert than he had been all day, so I'm sure they thought we were crazy. I made a point of saying- a few times- that our doctor's office said we should come. The ER doc was really nice and watched him a little, and showed me how to push down on his nail to check for dehydration (that would 've been nice to know before..) he said if he was nursing(which he wouldn't do till we were there) then he would rather him just do that than give him any medicine so we were out pretty quick (well ER quick). So next time I think we'll just tell him we're going to the ER and see if he gets better, I'm thinking that's the trick.

Oh and as if I didn't have enough laundry to do from all the puking, when I first got Eli up and took off his pukey clothes, I walked with him to the bathroom to get a towel. I saw the basket of CLEAN clothes I had just taken out of the dryer, so I bent down to get a towel out of it and- what else- Eli puked ALL over the whole basket of clean clothes!! NICE!!

4 Months of Eli

I'm sure I say this every month, but still- 4 months, WOW!! I really can't believe how quickly it's gone! This month Eli has decided naps are highly overrated. Although, I'm not going to mention that the other day he slept for 1.5hours!! But i won't mention it cause that would obviously jinx any chance of him doing it again (just go ahead and knock on wood for me, if you happen to "hear" that he DID sleep that long- thankyouverymuch). Anyway back to month 4, he can roll over both ways, but doesn't do it very often. He puts everything in his mouth, is starting to drool, and is spitting up a little less. He "talks" and laughs and thinks his big brother is hilarious. With both boys I've kept a blank calendar (where you fill in the days for their first year) and write on that rather than the babybook (I'm sure I'll fill that in eventually). Well Rowan's was always so full, I wrote down everything, Eli's is pretty blank. I write just the important stuff and even then sometimes I have to guess cause I forget to write it down. How sad it must be to be the second born! I'm glad I'm a firstborn :)
He had his 4 month check-up yesterday and passed with flying colors. His weight was 17lbs 10oz- even I was surprised he was THAT big! 25in. long and head circumference 43cm-incase you're keeping track. I think we may have to get a new car seat sooner than we expected!

Can you see the drool?

Look I have feet!

Two Months w/ Pics

Today was Eli's 2 month appt. He's absolutely perfect- of course. My aunt works at the office we go to so he gets (Rowan too) LOTS of attention when we go to the doctor. And I do LOVE hearing from every single nurse there how cute he is so that's fun! His height was 23 1/4in. and weight was 14lbs 9oz. Wow big chunker baby!! He got a shot and it broke my heart to see the look on his face when he realized it hurt. We are breaking up the vaccines so he only got one today, i rpobably would have cried if he got all 3. I try to take a pic each month to see how he's changing, I did it with Rowan too and with the paper I always know what the date was. Rowan and I were trying do hard to get him to smile..
But he was just not interested...

Nope, no smile....

I think he's starting to get annoyed with me...

Yep, I pissed him off- no it was Rowan, yeah we'll blame him...

Later, inside, he shows off his how strong he is during naked tummy time...

A bit of a smile..

Kisses from big brother.....

Finally... sheesh that took forever!
(Ignore the bad flash, I swear he is not that oily)

1 Month Appointment

Eli had his 1 month last week and is doing great. He weighed 11lbs. 11oz, that is up 4lbs!! from his initial weightloss. Chunky boy!! He was 21.5in, but I really don't pay attention to length since it is so hard to measure a squirmy baby. At his checkup at 4 days he had lost 2 inches, pretty sure that's not right!

He is holding his head up really well, and got praise from the doctor for that! He likes to "stand" on us, loves to be held like that and facing out to see the world. I'm also realizing he doesn't really like to be cuddled with, Rowan could sleep on us or right next to me for hours. Eli fusses when I try to lay close to him for like 5 minutes. Oh well, I guess they are different people and will have different personalities (hopefully Eli's will help him to listen better than his big brother!).

Rowan has his 3 year check-up today and I also have my lovely 6 week this week, can't wait. We are getting our computer fixed and should have it back today.

Easier with Two?

Mike and I have been surprised at how much easier it seems to be this time, even though there are two boys, it's not nearly as hard as we thought it would be. I don't know if Eli is just a better baby, or we know what we are doing this time, or the fact that I feel so much better than I did after having Rowan. Rowan has been a little crazy lately, but he is great with Eli, he went back to daycare today so hopefully whne he gets back into his normal routine he will calm down a bit!
Last week Eli had his first check-up. He checked out perfect! He had lost a lot and had a little dehydration so we had to go into the breastfeeding clinic the day before, but my milk came in and he is eating great now (and constantly!). He was 7lbs 12oz at the Dr. appointment, up 2oz from the day before at the clinic. We had to take Rowan to the appt. since his daycare was closed. We were already to leave, Eli in the seat and walking out the door of the exam room, when Rowan goes running back into the room, trips over his feet and falls hitting his head on the top of the plastic trashcan. He's screaming, Mike picks him up and blood is gushing from his forehead. He had a pretty big gash right above his eyebrow. Luckily we were at the Dr.'s. She was able to close it with Dermabond, rather than stitches, but I think it will take a while to heal. Until then Rowan has a big bandage on his head, but it does keep him from messing with it. i was quite freaked out, and realized I don't handle situations like that very well, at least not when there is blood gushing from my baby's head!

Eli is a pretty good sleeper, and falls right back to sleep after nusing at night. I'm still pretty tired so usually take a nap during the day with him, but I still feel really good most of the time. I am going to assume that I feel so good because I didn't end up with drugs or an episiotomy, since after Rowan's birth it was weeks before I did anything, or felt somewhat normal at all. I feel like we should get out so I can show off Eli, I would love to take Rowan to see his friends (who he hasn't seen in months), but I don't think I am quite ready to venture out with both of them alone! Someday!
